What F8 Means
F8 means the surface cooking area has been in operation too long and the automatic shutoff has activated. Maytag documents it for electric and induction cooktops as a safety feature: an element left running for an extended period switches itself off rather than being left unattended indefinitely.
Common Causes of F8
- Element left on for an extended period
- Control switched on unnoticed
- Cooking session genuinely longer than the shutoff limit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn off the surface cooking area, remove the utensils from it and let it cool, which is the published sequence. Then think about how it happened - a pan left on a low setting after cooking finished, or a control knocked on and not noticed, are the common ones. Once the area is cool the cooktop can be used normally. Nothing needs resetting beyond switching the area off.
