Maytag Cooktop Repair

Cooktop Repair, Done Right the First Time

Maytag cooktops come as gas, radiant electric and induction, and although they look similar dropped into a worktop, each fails in its own way - which is why the first question is always which type is under the glass or the grates.

Cooktops are diagnosed by type. On gas, the chain is the electrode, the switch, the spark module and the valve, with spill and moisture at the top of the list before any of them. On radiant, it is the element, the infinite switch behind the knob or the touch module, and the connections in between – which run hot and are a common failure point on a surface that has seen years of service. On induction, the power board, the coil and the temperature sensing stack are the components that matter, and they are the reason induction faults need proper measurement rather than substitution.

Because a cooktop sits in a worktop cut-out with mains or gas directly beneath, we isolate and prove the supply dead before lifting anything. If the glass is damaged we say clearly that the appliance should stay off until it is replaced, whatever else is working.

Why Trust Us With Your Maytag Cooktop

  • Measured, Not Guessed | The suspect cooktop component goes on a meter and is shown to have failed before we recommend replacing it.
  • Common cooktop Parts Aboard | The parts that fail most often travel with the technician; anything rarer is ordered on the spot and the return visit booked before we leave.
  • Isolated Before Anything Opens | The supply to your cooktop - power, water or gas - is shut off and proven dead before a panel moves, and high-voltage and sealed-system circuits stay with the technician.
  • Coverage Checked First | Where your cooktop looks like it may still sit inside manufacturer coverage we flag it before quoting, because work by anyone other than an authorized technician can put that coverage at risk.
FAQ

Cooktop Repair FAQ

Usually not. Induction only works with ferrous cookware - if a magnet does not grip the base firmly, the zone cannot sense it. The pan also has to cover enough of the ring to register. If a pan that definitely worked before is now rejected on one zone but accepted on another, the fault is in that zone or its power board and needs testing.

On a radiant cooktop, yes. The element cycles to hold an average power level, so at medium settings it glows and fades on a rhythm. What is not normal is a zone that only ever runs at full power, one that never reaches temperature, or cycling accompanied by clicking from under the glass.

No. Isolate it at the breaker and leave it out of use. A cracked surface lets spills reach live components underneath, and the crack lengthens with every heating cycle. On most models the glass is a replaceable part, and we will tell you whether that is worth doing against the age of the appliance.

Not necessarily. Wipe the panel completely dry first - standing water and spills on a capacitive surface are read as a permanent press and lock the panel out. Check whether a control lock has been engaged, which many models show with a padlock symbol. If it is dry, unlocked and still dead, the touch module or the control below it needs testing.
