What C82 Means
Maytag frames C82 around cookware: is the correct cookware being used, is the pan the wrong size, is it empty or dry? It notes that pan size, material and positioning matter for reaching full wattage, and that ideal cookware has a smooth flat bottom, straight sides, a well-fitting lid, and a medium to heavy thickness of material.
Common Causes of C82
- Pan too small for the cooking area
- Warped or domed pan base
- Pan empty or boiled dry
- Thin, lightweight cookware
- Pan not centred on the zone
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check what is on the zone. A pan much smaller than the cooking area, a warped or domed base that only touches in the centre, a very thin pan, or one that has boiled dry will all produce this. Swap to a flat, heavier pan sized to the zone and centre it properly. On induction, the pan must also be magnetic - a fridge magnet sticking firmly to the base is the simple test. Never leave a pan on heat once it has boiled dry.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Move a dry, overheated pan with an oven glove and set it on a heatproof surface, not a worktop.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
