What Indicator or Display Flashing Means
On a smoothtop cooktop, a flashing indicator or display is documented as meaning one or more keys are permanently pressed. Maytag asks you to make sure the cooktop controls are OFF and to remove any object left on the control area or wipe away debris on the panel surface.
Common Causes of Indicator or Display Flashing
- Object resting on the control area
- Dried spill or grease film on the panel
- Steam condensing on the touch area
- Touch control failing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clear the control area completely and wipe the panel with a cloth wrung out in soapy water, then dry it - a dried spill across the touch area holds a key just as a finger does. Make sure all controls are off first, as the instruction specifies, so nothing switches on while you clean. Let the glass cool before you start. If the display is still flashing on a clean cold panel, the touch control needs testing.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Clean only on a cool cooktop, and never spray cleaner directly at the panel.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
