What Flashing 0:00 Means
On a countertop microwave, a flashing 0:00 means there has been a power failure and the clock needs resetting. Maytag notes it also appears every time the microwave is plugged into a power source or when power returns after an outage, and that the oven must be on standby to set the clock.
Common Causes of Flashing 0:00
- Power failure or the appliance being unplugged
- Plug loose in the outlet
- Shared kitchen circuit dropping briefly
- Outlet failing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the microwave on standby, press the Timer or Clock button for three seconds to enter the clock setting, then set the time. If the display returns to a flashing 0:00 repeatedly without a power cut you noticed, check the plug is firmly in the outlet and that the outlet itself is sound - a countertop microwave sharing a kitchen circuit with a kettle or a toaster can see brief interruptions when both start together.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None for setting the clock. Investigate a repeatedly failing outlet through an electrician.
