What F20 Means
F20 belongs to the older Maytag front-load control generation, before the F#E# scheme. Maytag documents it as a water inlet problem: no water, or not enough of it, reaching the machine within the expected time.
Common Causes of F20
- Tap closed or only partly open
- Inlet hose kinked behind the machine
- Inlet valve screens blocked with grit or scale
- Low household water pressure
- Inlet valve failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check both taps behind the washer are fully open, not just cracked a turn, and that the household supply is working at a nearby sink. Look along both inlet hoses for kinks where the machine has been pushed back against them. Then close the taps, undo the hoses at the washer end with a towel underneath, and lift out the small mesh screens in the valve inlets to rinse away grit and scale. Refit, open the taps and retry. If both supplies flow freely and the screens are clean, the inlet valve is the next suspect.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The hoses hold mains pressure, so both taps must be closed before a coupling is undone.
