What F4 Means
F4 means a pot or pan is too close to the control panel. Maytag asks you to make sure the pan is centred on the cooking area and that nothing hot is sitting on the touch control panel, then to move the pan off the cooktop and wait five minutes for the panel to clear.
Common Causes of F4
- Pan overhanging the front of a cooking area onto the panel
- Pan not centred on its zone
- Hot item set down on the touch control panel
- Oversized pan for the zone being used
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Move the pan off the cooktop and give the control panel five minutes to clear, as Maytag specifies - the panel needs to cool, not just be uncovered. Then centre pans properly on their cooking areas in future, especially on the front zones nearest the controls, and keep handles turned away from the panel. A large pan overhanging the front of a small zone is the usual reason for this code on the front elements.

- Move the pan with an oven glove and set it on a heatproof surface, not a worktop.
