What F3C Means
F3C is published as a possible problem with the cavity temperature thermistor or the associated wiring. The cavity thermistor reads the temperature inside the oven compartment, which is how the control knows whether heating is progressing as expected.
Common Causes of F3C
- Transient fault cleared by a reset
- Thermistor connector loose or corroded
- Thermistor wiring heat-damaged
- Cavity thermistor failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the microwave off at its circuit breaker for one minute, restore power, then run a short heating test with a cup of water to verify operation, which is the check Maytag asks for. Then run a one-minute test on a cup of water and see whether it heats. A thermistor fault does not always stop the microwave working, but it does undermine anything that depends on temperature, so avoid automatic and sensor programmes until it is fixed. The thermistor itself is inside the cabinet and cannot be reached at home.

- A microwave oven holds a high voltage capacitor that can retain a dangerous charge long after the appliance is unplugged, so the cabinet is never opened at home under any circumstances.
- An over-the-range unit is mounted above a cooking surface at head height and is heavy enough to need two people and a support to remove safely.
