What F5 Means
F5 on the legacy platform is published as a possible problem with the oven door latch assembly, the door latch switches, or the associated wiring. It is the legacy equivalent of the F5 E-series door codes on the newer platform.
Common Causes of F5
- Latch assembly failed or jammed
- Latch switches failed
- Door hinges worn, so the door no longer sits square
- Debris in the latch path
- Wiring to the latch damaged
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Let the oven cool fully if it has been self-cleaning, then press cancel to clear the code, then cut power at the breaker for a minute, restore it, and start a bake cycle to see whether the code returns. Check the door closes square, that the hinges are not sagging, and that nothing is caught where the latch travels. A door that has dropped on worn hinges often produces latch codes because the latch no longer meets its keeper cleanly, and that is worth mentioning when you book.

- A range is wired to a high-current circuit, and the control is behind a panel with live terminals.
- Never force a locked oven door.
- Oven doors are heavy and spring-loaded on their hinges; removing one is not a casual job.
