What dET Means
dET appears on Maytag front-load washers fitted with a bulk detergent dispenser, and means the control cannot detect the detergent cartridge. Maytag notes plainly that if you are dosing each load by hand rather than using the bulk cartridge, this message can simply be ignored.
Common Causes of dET
- Bulk detergent cartridge not fully seated
- Cartridge empty or missing
- Dried detergent on the drawer rails
- Cartridge sensor or wiring fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If you use the bulk dispenser, slide the cartridge out and push it back in until it seats; a cartridge sitting slightly proud is the usual cause. Check that it actually contains detergent and that the drawer runners are clean, since dried detergent on the rails stops the cartridge going fully home. If you dose by hand with single-load measures, no action is needed - the message is telling you about a feature you are not using.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None - reseating the cartridge is ordinary use.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
