What F22 Means
F22 is the older front-load door-lock code. Maytag asks whether the door is firmly shut and whether clothing or shipping material is preventing it from closing, which points at the two ordinary causes before any electrical fault.
Common Causes of F22
- Door not fully latched
- Clothing caught across the door opening
- Shipping material left in place
- Door lock assembly failed
- Wiring to the lock damaged
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the door fully and check nothing crosses the seal - a sleeve, a towel corner or packaging from a recent delivery. On a machine that has just been installed, confirm all transit material has been removed. Wipe the latch and the striker plate, then close the door with a firm push rather than a swing. If the code stays, unplug for five minutes to reset the control and try once more. A latch that does not click, or clicks without the machine starting, is a failed lock assembly.

- The door lock is the interlock that keeps the drum still while the door is open, so it is never bypassed.
