What oL Means
oL means the washer has weighed the load during sensing and decided there is simply too much in the basket. Maytag documents what happens next: the machine drains whatever water and detergent it had taken in rather than trying to wash an overloaded drum.
Common Causes of oL
- Genuinely overloaded basket
- Bulky absorbent items such as towels or rugs taking on more weight than expected
- Load-sensing circuit misreading
- Items wound tightly around the washplate
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Take out several items - a good rule is that a hand should fit between the top of the load and the rim of the basket. Add high-efficiency detergent for the smaller load, close the lid and press START/PAUSE to begin again. If oL appears with what is clearly a modest load, the load-sensing side of the control is misreading, and that is worth a diagnosis rather than repeated attempts, because each attempt fills and drains again.
