What Probe or Insert Probe Means
This message means the control is looking for an input from the meat probe. Maytag asks you to verify the probe is fully inserted in its jack, and gives genuinely useful guidance on using it: insert the temperature probe into the centre of the fleshy or thickest part of the food, and when cooking meat with a bone, avoid placing the probe against the bone.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Push the probe plug fully into its jack, then place the probe itself in the centre of the thickest part of the food, keeping it away from bone, fat and the pan - all three read differently from the meat around them, and a probe touching bone reads high while one in fat reads low. If you are not cooking with the probe, unplug it completely, since a partly inserted probe produces this message on its own.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Let the cavity cool before reaching in, and use an oven glove when repositioning a probe in hot food.
