What Sabbath, Sab, 5Ab or 5A7 Means
These displays mean Sabbath Mode is enabled. Maytag explains what it does: the oven remains on in a Bake setting until turned off, only the Bake cycle will operate, and all other cooking and cleaning cycles are disabled. It is an intentional feature, not a fault, though a range in it behaves very unlike a normal one.
Common Causes of Sabbath, Sab, 5Ab or 5A7
- Sabbath Mode set deliberately
- Mode entered accidentally by a long key press
- Mode left on after a previous use
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Cancel Sabbath Mode through the control to restore normal operation - the sequence is in the owner manual for your model. If nobody set it deliberately, it was most likely entered by accident through a long key press. The symptom that brings people to look it up is usually the same: only baking works, the self-clean and timed functions refuse, and the display behaves unusually. That is Sabbath Mode working exactly as designed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None - this is a documented operating mode.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
