What FC LF, FC LR, FC RF or FC RR Means

These four codes name individual cooking positions. Maytag publishes each as a possible problem with that hotplate - the cooking surface, burner or element - or the associated wiring. The suffix identifies the position on the cooktop, so the code tells you which element to look at before anyone opens anything.

Common Causes of FC LF, FC LR, FC RF or FC RR

  • Element open circuit
  • Element connector heat-damaged or loose
  • Wiring to that position damaged
  • Control not switching that element

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Switch off at the breaker for a minute, restore power, then test every zone in turn on a low setting and note exactly which ones heat and which do not. If the dead zone matches the code position, the element or its wiring is the target. If more than one zone is dead, or the dead zone does not match the code, say so when you book, because that usually points at the control rather than a single element.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Element terminals carry high current and sit directly under the glass, so the cooktop is isolated and lifted by a technician.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

They generally work, but an element reporting a fault should be left switched off.
