What Indicator or Hot Light On Means
Maytag treats a hot or indicator light that stays on as meaning one of two things: a cooktop control is still on, or an element is still too hot to touch safely. Its published first step is to make sure all cooktop controls are OFF and then allow the cooktop to cool.
Common Causes of Indicator or Hot Light On
- A cooking zone still switched on
- Residual heat in the glass
- Hot pan standing on the cooktop
- Temperature sensor or control fault
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check every control, including the ones at the back that are easy to overlook, and confirm they are all off - a single zone left on a low setting keeps the indicator lit and quietly uses power. Then let the cooktop cool. If the indicator is still on with everything off and the glass cold, a breaker reset of one minute is the next published step. If it survives that, the control or the sensing needs testing.
