What E13 Means
E13 means the oven did not preheat correctly, and Maytag points at the appliance control board or the associated wiring. This code belongs to over-the-range models with a conventional or convection oven function alongside the microwave, since a plain microwave has nothing to preheat.

- Transient fault cleared by a power reset
- Appliance control board failing
- Wiring to the heater or its relay damaged
- Heating element not reaching temperature
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the microwave off at its circuit breaker for one minute, restore power, and then run a short heating test with a cup of water to verify operation, which is the check Maytag asks for. Then try the microwave function alone with a cup of water - if that works normally, the fault is confined to the oven side, which is worth knowing before anyone visits. Do not keep attempting preheats: a control board that cannot complete the sequence will not manage it on the fifth try either, and each attempt runs a heater under a board that has reported a fault.
