What F2E1 Means
Maytag gives F2E1 on an over-the-range microwave as a possible problem with the user interface or keypad, or the associated wiring. It sits in the same family as F2 and E03, all pointing at the panel rather than at the heating side of the appliance.
Common Causes of F2E1
- Contamination on the touch panel
- Keypad ribbon connector loose

- Wiring between keypad and control damaged
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clean and dry the panel first, since contamination is the cause that costs nothing to rule out. Switch the microwave off at its circuit breaker for one minute, restore power, and then run a short heating test with a cup of water to verify operation, which is the check Maytag asks for. If the code returns on a clean cold panel, the keypad or its harness needs replacing. Note whether the display itself looks normal - a panel with a healthy display but unresponsive keys is a different repair from one where the display is also dim or flickering.

- A microwave oven holds a high voltage capacitor that can retain a dangerous charge long after the appliance is unplugged, so the cabinet is never opened at home under any circumstances.
- An over-the-range unit is also mounted above a cooking surface at head height and is heavy enough to need two people and a support to remove safely.
