What Ofb or uL Means
Ofb, which appears as uL on some Maytag models, means the load is sitting unevenly in the basket and the washer could not correct it by redistributing on its own. The machine runs a balance-correction routine first; the code only shows when that routine has run out of attempts. It is a loading problem in almost every case, not a mechanical one.
Common Causes of Ofb or uL
- A single bulky item washed on its own
- Load bunched on one side of the basket
- Washer not level or a foot not touching the floor
- Bulky items washed on the wrong cycle
- Suspension worn on an older machine
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the lid and spread the load out in loose heaps evenly around the washplate rather than in one lump on one side. Single heavy items are the usual culprit - a bath mat, a pair of jeans or a jacket on its own will not balance, so add a few towels to keep it company. Close the lid and press START/PAUSE to resume. If it happens on every load regardless of what is in it, check that the washer is level and sitting firmly on all four feet: a machine that rocks on an uneven floor will trip this code with a perfectly normal load.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- None - redistributing the load and levelling the machine is routine use.
