What F2E3 Means
Maytag describes F2E3 as an issue with the appliance control unit, the user interface, or the wiring between them. In plain terms the two boards that run the machine are not talking to each other reliably, and the control stops the cycle rather than acting on a half-received instruction.
Common Causes of F2E3
- Transient communication glitch cleared by a reset
- Harness connector between interface and control board loose
- Wiring chafed where it passes the cabinet edge

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the washer for five minutes and restore power, which reseats the software side of the link and clears a transient fault. Run a short cycle. If the code returns, this is a wiring-and-boards diagnosis rather than an owner repair: the harness between the console and the main board can chafe where it passes the cabinet edge, and that is checked with the machine opened up and isolated. Note whether the display flickers or the machine responds late to key presses, since both point at the same connection.
