What F3E2 Means
On the Maytag top-load platform F3E2 carries a specific and easily fixed meaning: the hot and cold inlet hoses are installed the wrong way round, so the cold inlet is being fed hot water. On front-load models Maytag publishes only a reset for this code, so on those machines it should be treated as a control fault instead.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close both taps behind the washer first, because the hoses hold mains pressure. Put a towel down, unscrew both hoses at the washer end and swap them so the hot supply lands on the inlet marked H. Hand-tighten plus a quarter turn, open the taps, check for drips and run a short cycle. Worth checking the taps themselves too, since on some installations it is the wall plumbing that is crossed rather than the hoses. On a front-load machine, do a five-minute power reset instead and book a diagnosis if the code returns.
