What F5E1 Means
F5E1 means the control is not seeing the door or lid switch report closed. Maytag names the practical cause first on both platforms: the door is not completely shut, or something is physically blocking the switch - clothing caught in the opening, or shipping material left in place after delivery.
Common Causes of F5E1
- Door or lid not fully latched
- Laundry caught across the door opening
- Shipping material left in place on a new machine
- Door switch failed or out of adjustment
- Wiring to the switch damaged
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the door or lid fully and look at the opening. Push any laundry back inside so nothing crosses the seal, and check for packaging, a cable tie or a shipping clip left behind if the machine is new. Wipe the switch striker and the recess it enters. Close the door firmly - a push that seats the latch rather than a gentle swing - and restart. If the code stays with a genuinely clear, firmly closed door, the switch itself or its wiring has failed and that is a service part.
