What F1E1 Means

On a cooktop, Maytag describes F1E1 as a loss of communication between the user interface, or keypad, and the appliance manager. The touch panel you press and the board that switches the elements are no longer exchanging data, so the cooktop will not heat.

Common Causes of F1E1

  • Transient communication fault cleared by a reset
  • Connector between the touch panel and the control board loose
  • Harness damaged by heat under the cooktop
  • Touch control or appliance manager board failed

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Switch the cooktop off at its breaker for a minute, then restore power and try a single element on a low setting. If everything works, the fault was transient. If F1E1 returns, the connection between the touch panel and the control board needs testing, and that means lifting the cooktop out of the worktop with the supply isolated. Note whether the display and the touch keys respond normally, since a panel that lights up but does nothing points at the link rather than the panel.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • A cooktop is hard-wired or on a high-current circuit; isolation at the breaker is the only safe way to work on it.
  • Lifting a glass cooktop out of a worktop risks cracking it if it is not released correctly.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
