What C Means
After one hundred and twenty hours of fan operation the display shows C while the fan is active. This is the charcoal filter reminder. Maytag notes that the charcoal filter can be cleaned and reactivated rather than simply thrown away, and that the alarm is reset by holding the FAN button for three seconds, after which C stops being displayed.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Remove the charcoal filter and clean it as the instructions for your model describe, then reactivate and dry it thoroughly before refitting. Hold FAN for three seconds to clear the reminder. Charcoal filters matter on recirculating installations, where the hood returns filtered air to the kitchen rather than ducting it outside, so if odours are lingering during cooking this is the filter responsible.

- A charcoal filter will not survive indefinite reactivation; replace it when cleaning no longer restores it.
