What F Means

After thirty hours of fan operation the display shows F while the fan is running. Maytag explains this is the grease filter saturation reminder: the metal filters that catch cooking grease need washing. It is a timer, not a fault, and it does not measure how dirty the filters actually are.

Common Causes of F

  • Thirty hours of fan run time since the last reset
  • Filters genuinely saturated with cooking grease
  • Alarm not reset after the last cleaning

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Take out the metal grease filters and wash them, either in the dishwasher or in hot detergent solution. Let them dry thoroughly before refitting - a damp filter back in the hood drips onto the cooktop. Then reset the saturation alarm at the control, and the F clears. If your cooking is mostly frying, the filters will need washing before the reminder appears, so judge by how they look as well as by the display.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Let the cooktop cool before reaching over it to remove filters.
  • Never run the hood with the filters out - the grease then goes straight into the blower and the ducting.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
