What F0E3 Means

F0E3 means the load is too heavy for the basket and the washer has started its overload recovery routine. Maytag frames it as a loading problem: the machine is trying to redistribute and cope rather than reporting a broken part. On the front-load platform the same code is published with only a reset instruction, so on those models it should be read as a control fault instead.

Common Causes of F0E3

  • Too much laundry in the basket
  • Heavy wet items such as towels or bedding
  • Items wound tightly around the washplate
  • Load-sensing circuit misreading the weight

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Wait for the recovery routine to finish before doing anything, then open the lid and take out enough items that a hand fits between the load and the rim. Heavy absorbent items such as towels, rugs and bedding weigh far more wet than dry, which is why a basket that looked reasonable can still overload the machine. Close the lid, press START/PAUSE and let the cycle continue. If F0E3 shows on a front-load machine, or on a top-load machine with a genuinely small load, unplug for five minutes to reset the control and book a diagnosis if it returns.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None on the top-load platform - reducing the load is ordinary use.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

F0E3 FAQ

Loose heaps up to the top row of holes, with room to put a hand in. A packed drum cannot tumble and will not clean well either.

That points at the load-sensing side of the control rather than the laundry, and is worth a diagnosis.
