What F0E4 Means
F0E4 means the washer measured water arriving hotter than the cycle expects. Maytag names the usual reason directly: the inlet hoses are on the wrong valves, so the hot supply is feeding the cold inlet. The second possibility is a genuinely high household water heater setting.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close both taps behind the washer before touching the hoses, since they carry mains pressure. Check which hose is fed by the hot tap and make sure it lands on the inlet marked H; if the pair is crossed, swap them, retighten and reopen the taps. If the plumbing is correct, check the temperature setting on the household water heater - anything much above 120 F arrives hot enough to trip this on a cold or warm cycle, and a lower setting is safer for scalding as well. If both are right and the code persists, the temperature sensor or the inlet valve is misreporting and needs a diagnosis.

- The inlet hoses are under mains pressure, so both taps must be closed first.
- Water heater settings above about 120 F carry a real scalding risk at every tap in the house, not only at the washer.
