What F5E3 Means
F5E3 is also a door-lock code: the control reports the door is not locking properly. Maytag describes checking that the door is completely closed and that nothing blocks the latch or prevents the door from seating.
Common Causes of F5E3
- Door not seating fully against the latch
- Item trapped in the door seal or boot
- Latch or striker worn out of alignment
- Door lock assembly failed
- Control not registering the lock signal
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Look along the latch path with the door open. Clear anything caught in the seal, and on a front-load machine check the boot for a sock pushed into the fold under the door. Wipe the latch and striker clean. Close the door with a firm push and restart the cycle. If the code persists, unplug for five minutes to reset the control before concluding the lock has failed; the lock and the control both have to agree for the cycle to start, and a reset rules out the software side.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The lock keeps the drum still with the door open, so it is never bypassed.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
