What F8E3 Means
Maytag describes F8E3 as an overflow: too much water or too much foam in the machine. This is the one washer code that carries a real risk to the room as well as the appliance, because an overfilling washer can put water on the floor.
Common Causes of F8E3
- Excess detergent creating a foam head the sensor reads as water
- Inlet valve leaking through when closed
- Pressure sensor or its air hose faulty
- Control misreading the water level
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the washer off at the socket or the breaker and close both water taps behind it. That stops any further fill immediately, which is the priority. If the drum is full, run a Drain and Spin once power is restored, or drain it through the pump filter with a tray and towels ready. If the cause was excessive foam from too much detergent, run a Rinse and Spin with no detergent and correct the dosing. If the machine overfilled with the taps open and no foam present, leave it switched off and have it diagnosed - an inlet valve that passes water when closed will keep filling even when the machine is off at the control.
