What Sensing or Fill Light Means

The Sensing or Fill light shows while the washer is working out how much water the load needs. Maytag explains that with the water level set to Auto Sensing, the machine fills and senses to determine the correct level. It is normal behaviour at the start of a cycle.

Common Causes of Sensing or Fill Light

  • Auto Sensing selected and the washer is measuring the load

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Let it run. Sensing takes a few minutes and often involves short bursts of tumbling with little visible water, which is the machine measuring the load rather than failing to fill. If the sensing stage never ends and the washer does not progress to washing, that is a different matter and usually shows as a fill or level code shortly afterwards.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None - this is a normal cycle stage.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
