What F8E5 Means
Maytag states the potential cause of F8E5 as a fill valve stuck open, and its first published instruction is to turn off the water to the dishwasher if possible. A valve that will not close keeps filling the tub whether the cycle wants water or not, and the tub will eventually overflow.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn off the dishwasher shut-off valve, normally under the kitchen sink on the hot supply, straight away - that is Maytag's own first step. Then cancel the cycle and let the machine drain if it will. Do not simply reset and restart: a valve stuck open refills the moment power returns, and the only thing stopping it is the closed supply. Leave the water off until the valve has been replaced.

- This is an active overfill, so the water stays off rather than the machine being run to observe it.
- The valve sits behind the lower front panel on mains terminals in the wettest part of the machine.
