What F9E2 Means
Maytag gives F9E2 as a drain motor error and begins with a question about installation: whether the waste disposer knockout plug has been removed. On a new installation that plug is the single most common reason a dishwasher cannot drain at all.
Common Causes of F9E2
- Waste disposer knockout plug never removed
- Sump filter blocked
- Drain hose kinked or blocked
- Debris jamming the drain pump impeller
- Drain motor failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the dishwasher was fitted recently and drains into a waste disposer, the knockout plug inside the disposer inlet must have been removed - if it was not, the water has nowhere to go. On an established installation, clean the sump filter, check the drain hose for kinks, and look for glass or a bone fragment in the sump that could be jamming the pump impeller. If the machine still will not drain, the drain motor needs testing.

- Bail out standing water with a jug and a sponge before anyone tilts or moves the machine, so it does not pour into the cabinet.
- The drain pump sits under the tub on mains wiring.
