What F01 or F02 Means
On the legacy two-digit code platform, Maytag gives F01 and F02 as a possible problem with the oven temperature sensor, the control, or the associated wiring. The sensor is the thin probe that sits inside the oven cavity, usually at the upper rear, and the control relies on it for every temperature decision it makes.
Common Causes of F01 or F02
- Oven temperature sensor out of tolerance
- Sensor bent against the cavity wall
- Sensor connector at the rear loose or corroded
- Wiring damaged behind the oven
- Control not reading the sensor correctly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Press Cancel to clear the code, then cut power at the breaker for a minute, restore it, and start a bake cycle to see whether the code returns. While the oven is cool, look at the sensor probe inside the cavity: it should be secure and clear of the oven wall, and if a rack or a heavy dish has bent it against the liner, that alone can affect its reading. Do not pull on it. If the code returns, the sensor is tested with a meter, which is a technician job on a mains-connected range.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A range is wired to a high-current circuit, and the control is behind a panel with live terminals.
- The sensor connector is behind the rear panel, which means pulling the range out and isolating it.
