What F8 Means
F8 on the legacy platform asks you to verify that the meat probe is securely inserted in the meat probe receptacle, and notes that the receptacle location varies by model. It is one of the few range codes with a genuinely simple cause.
Common Causes of F8
- Probe not fully inserted in the receptacle
- Probe left partly plugged in when not in use
- Probe cable or plug damaged
- Receptacle contacts dirty or damaged
- Probe left in during a self-clean cycle
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Find the probe receptacle inside the oven cavity - its position varies, so check the manual for your model if it is not obvious - and push the probe plug fully home. If you are not using the probe at all, unplug it completely, since a probe half-inserted is exactly the condition this code reports. Check the probe cable and plug for damage while you are there, and keep the probe out of the oven during self-clean cycles, which destroy them.

- Let the oven cool before reaching into the cavity to handle the probe.
