What F9-1, F9-2 or F9-3 Means
All three of these legacy codes are published as a possible problem with the oven door latch, the door lock switch, or the associated wiring. Maytag gives no separate cause for each, so they are documented here as one door-lock fault reported three ways.
Common Causes of F9-1, F9-2 or F9-3
- Latch motor failed or jammed
- Lock switch failed
- Latch obstructed
- Self-clean interrupted mid-cycle
- Wiring to the latch damaged
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the door is locked, let the oven cool completely first. Press Cancel to clear the code, then cut power at the breaker for a minute, restore it, and start a bake cycle to see whether the code returns. Check the door closes square and that nothing obstructs the latch. Note which code appeared and whether the door is currently locked, unlocked or stuck part way, because the state of the latch when you call is one of the more useful things a technician can be told in advance.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A range is wired to a high-current circuit, and the control is behind a panel with live terminals.
- Never force a locked oven door.
- A hot cavity keeps the latch engaged by design.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
