What H on a Range Cooktop Means
An H in the heat setting window of a range cooktop means a surface cooking area is too hot to touch, even after it has been switched off. Maytag asks you to let the cooktop cool, and adds that if the H is still displayed or is flashing once it should have cooled, you should power the cooktop down at the circuit breaker for one minute.

Let it cool and the indicator clears by itself. If the glass is cold to the touch and H is still shown or flashing, switch the range off at its breaker for one minute and restore power. If it returns on a cold cooktop after that reset, the temperature sensing needs testing. Until then, treat the indicator as accurate and keep hands and cloths off the glass.
