What Indicator or Hot Light On a Range Means
On an electric range, an indicator or hot light that stays on means either a cooktop control is still on, or an element is still too hot to touch safely. Maytag asks you to make sure all the cooktop controls are OFF and to allow the cooktop to cool.
Common Causes of Indicator or Hot Light On a Range
- A surface control still switched on
- Residual heat in the glass
- Hot pan standing on the cooktop
- Heat from the oven below
- Sensor or control fault

Check every surface control, including the rear ones that are easy to overlook - a single element left on a low setting keeps the light on, uses power quietly and stays a burn risk. Then let the cooktop cool. If the light is still on with everything off and the glass cold, a one-minute reset at the breaker is the next step, and a light that survives that needs the sensing tested.
