What F2E1 Means
Maytag labels F2E1 on a dryer as a keypad fault. The control is reading one of the touch keys as permanently pressed, which it cannot distinguish from somebody holding a button down, so it refuses to start a cycle on what may be a phantom instruction.
Common Causes of F2E1
- Detergent, water or grease on the touch panel
- An object leaning against the control panel
- Humidity in a closed laundry room
- Keypad or interface board failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Wipe the whole control panel with a barely damp cloth and dry it properly - spilled detergent, softener or a film of kitchen grease across the keys will hold one reading as pressed. Check nothing is resting against the panel, such as a laundry basket pushed up against the machine. Then start a timed dry cycle, which is what Maytag asks you to do after clearing the fault. If one key stays unresponsive or the code returns on a clean dry panel, the keypad or the interface board has failed.
