What H2O Means
H2O means the dishwasher is not detecting water, and Maytag's first instruction is to make sure the water supply to the machine is turned on. It is one of the few codes where the cause is genuinely often outside the appliance.
Common Causes of H2O
- Supply shut-off valve closed or partly closed
- Inlet hose kinked behind the machine
- Inlet screen at the valve blocked with sediment
- Fill valve failed
- Water off in the house after plumbing work
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the shut-off valve under the kitchen sink is fully open - it gets knocked closed surprisingly often when things are stored under there, and it is always worth checking after any plumbing work in the house. Run the kitchen hot tap to confirm the supply is live and that hot water arrives. Then look at the inlet hose behind the machine for a kink. If the supply is fine and the dishwasher still reports no water, the fill valve or its inlet screen is restricted.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Turn off the supply and isolate the machine before any hose is disconnected, or the connection will empty into the cabinet.
