What F05 Means
F05 on the legacy platform is published as a possible problem with the door latch assembly, the door switch, or the associated wiring. The latch is the motorised mechanism that locks the oven door during a self-clean cycle, and the switch tells the control whether the door is open, closed or locked.
Common Causes of F05
- Latch motor failed or jammed
- Door switch failed
- Latch obstructed by debris
- Wiring to the latch damaged
- Self-clean cycle interrupted mid-cycle
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Press Cancel to clear the code, then cut power at the breaker for a minute, restore it, and start a bake cycle to see whether the code returns. Check that nothing is obstructing the door where it closes and that the door sits square in its frame. If the code appeared during or after a self-clean cycle, let the oven cool completely first - the latch will not release while the cavity is hot, and that is by design rather than a fault. If the door is locked and the oven is cold and the code persists, do not force it: the latch motor is what releases it, and forcing a locked oven door damages both the latch and the door.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A range is wired to a high-current circuit, and the control is behind a panel with live terminals.
- Never force a locked oven door; the latch mechanism and the door itself are both damaged by it.
- A self-clean cycle leaves the cavity extremely hot, and the latch is designed not to release until it cools.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
