What F05, F1-A, F1-C, F9-1, F9-2 or F9-3 Means
Maytag publishes this group of legacy codes as a possible problem with the oven door latch assembly, the door lock switch, or the associated wiring. On a wall oven these matter more than on a range, because the door is the only way in and a latch that will not release leaves an oven that cannot be used at all.
Common Causes of F05, F1-A, F1-C, F9-1, F9-2 or F9-3
- Latch motor failed or jammed
- Lock switch failed
- Self-clean cycle interrupted before the cavity cooled
- Debris in the latch path
- Hinges worn so the door sits out of square
- Wiring to the latch damaged
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
If the door is locked, let the cavity cool right down first - the latch is designed to stay engaged while the oven is hot, and on a well-insulated wall oven that takes longer than people expect after a self-clean. Then press cancel to clear the code, switch the oven off at its breaker for a minute, restore power, and start a bake cycle to see whether the code returns. Check nothing is caught where the latch travels and that the door closes flush against the frame all the way round. Do not force it.

- A wall oven is built into cabinetry and hard-wired, so it has to be unfastened and drawn out of its housing by a technician before anything inside can be reached.
- Never force a locked oven door; the latch motor moves it, and forcing damages the latch and the door.
- A self-cleaned wall oven cavity retains heat for a long time because of how well it is insulated.
