What F5 E5 Means
F5 E5 means the oven has not reached self-clean temperature after thirty minutes, and Maytag names the door hinges or the door gasket. Self-cleaning needs a properly sealed door, and a wall oven that has been in place for a decade has usually had its door opened and closed tens of thousands of times.
Common Causes of F5 E5
- Door gasket torn, flattened or displaced
- Hinges worn so the door no longer seals evenly
- Door out of square in the frame
- Heating element underperforming
- Control not holding the clean temperature
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the oven cool, run a finger along the gasket looking for tears, flattened sections or a gap where it has pulled away. Close the door on a sheet of paper at several points around the frame and see whether it grips evenly - anywhere the paper slides out freely is a place heat escapes during a clean cycle. Check whether the door sags when open or needs a push to close the last part of its travel, which indicates hinge wear. Both parts are replaceable.

- A wall oven is built into cabinetry and hard-wired, so it has to be unfastened and drawn out of its housing by a technician before anything inside can be reached.
- A wall oven door is heavy and spring-loaded; removing one to work on hinges is a two-person job at best.
- Never run a self-clean cycle with a damaged door seal.
