What F1E1 Means

Maytag gives the potential cause of F1E1 as the control module. The board that runs the wash, heat and drain sequence has reported a fault in itself, which is why the published first step is a power reset rather than anything in the tub.

Common Causes of F1E1

  • Transient control fault cleared by a reset
  • Power surge or brownout at the outlet
  • Moisture reaching the control housing
  • Control module failed

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Reset the control by cutting power for thirty seconds - unplug the dishwasher if it is on an outlet, or switch off its breaker if it is hard-wired - then restore power and run a short cycle. If the cycle completes normally, the fault was transient and the dishwasher can be used as usual. If F1E1 comes straight back, the control needs replacing and that is a service job. Note whether the dishwasher fills, whether the spray arms turn and whether it drains before the code appears, because a board that fails part-way through gives the technician a much narrower starting point than one that faults at power-up.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • The control on a built-in dishwasher sits behind the door panel or under the tub with mains terminals alongside, and the machine has to be pulled out of the cabinet to reach it.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F1E1 FAQ

It is what Maytag specifies. It gives the board time to discharge and start clean.

At the breaker, not by pulling wires.
