What F4E2 Means
Maytag gives the potential cause of F4E2 as the heating system. The dishwasher heats water for the wash and, on many cycles, for drying; when the control cannot confirm that heat is being produced as expected it stops and reports it.
Common Causes of F4E2
- Transient fault cleared by a reset
- Incoming water unusually cold or a long pipe run to the kitchen
- Heating element failed
- Element wiring or its relay on the control failed
- Thermistor misreading temperature
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Reset the control by cutting power for thirty seconds - unplug the dishwasher if it is on an outlet, or switch off its breaker if it is hard-wired - then restore power and run a short cycle. Then run a normal cycle and feel the door at the end - a dishwasher that is genuinely not heating leaves cool, wet dishes and a tub that never warms. Check that your water heater is set to a sensible temperature and that hot water reaches the kitchen tap quickly, since a dishwasher fed from a long cold run takes much longer to reach temperature. Beyond that, the heating element and its control are under the tub on mains wiring and need a technician.
