What F2E1 Means
Maytag attributes F2E1 to a stuck key or a console error. The control is reading a button as permanently pressed, or the console itself has faulted, and either way it will not accept a new cycle selection.
Common Causes of F2E1
- Residue or moisture on the touch console
- Steam escaping past a worn door seal onto the console
- Console membrane failed
- Interface board failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Wipe the control face with a barely damp cloth and dry it - detergent residue, grease from cooking or a film of hard-water spray on a top-of-door console will all hold a touch key as pressed. Reset the control by cutting power for thirty seconds - unplug the dishwasher if it is on an outlet, or switch off its breaker if it is hard-wired - then restore power and run a short cycle. Then press each key in turn and note any that do not respond. One dead key points at the console; a console where nothing responds points at the interface behind it.

- Never spray cleaner at the console; liquid travelling behind it reaches the electronics.
- The console is sandwiched in the door panel, which has to come apart to reach it.
