What F7 E5, F7 E6, F8 E0 or F8 E2 Means
These four codes all concern the oven cooling fan. Maytag publishes F7 E5 and F7 E6 as a possible problem with the cooling fan or the associated wiring, F8 E0 as the cooling fan speed being too low with an airflow restriction, the fan, or the wiring named, and F8 E2 as the fan speed being too high. The cooling fan keeps the surrounding cabinetry and the control electronics within safe temperatures, so these are not codes to ignore.

- Vent obstructed by a towel, trim or stored items
- Cooling fan bearing worn
- Fan blade fouled or obstructed
- Fan motor failed
- Wiring to the fan damaged
- Control misreading fan speed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the vents around the range are clear - the cooling air usually leaves through a vent above the door or at the rear, and a towel hung over the handle across that vent is enough to restrict it. Make sure nothing is stored against the back of a freestanding range. Press Cancel to clear the code, then switch the range off at its breaker for a minute, restore power, and start a bake cycle to see whether it returns. Listen for the fan during a bake cycle: it should be clearly audible. A fan that is silent, or that sounds rough or rattly, matches the codes directly.

- A range runs on a high-current circuit and its control sits behind a panel with live terminals.
- The cooling fan sits inside the range structure behind mains wiring.
- Let the cavity cool completely before reaching inside; a recently used oven stays hot for a long time.
