What H2O Light Means

The H2O or filter status light is a service reminder for the water filter, not a fault. Maytag recommends replacing the filter every six months, when the indicator comes on, or sooner if water flow or ice production drops, and notes that a clogged or badly fitted filter affects both.

Common Causes of H2O Light

  • Filter reached its six-month service interval
  • Filter clogged early by sediment in the supply
  • Filter not seated fully in its housing
  • Wrong filter fitted for the model

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Replace the filter with the correct one for your model, then reset the status indicator - it does not reset by itself when the filter is changed. After fitting a new filter, run several litres of water through the dispenser to purge trapped air, otherwise the first glasses spit and the ice looks cloudy. If water flow is still poor with a fresh filter properly seated, the issue is in the supply line rather than the filter.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • None - filter replacement is routine owner maintenance.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
